You should be able to catch good numbers of trout. Small, dark patterns and larger, lighter patterns catch fish throughout the season. That is where the food is most likely to be drifting and where the trout are most likely feeding. There are mostly brown and rainbow trout in the lower sections but the higher elevations hold plenty of brook trout and cutthroat trout. Keep in mind that the Middle and South St. Vrain tend to be busiest during the Spring, Summer, and Fall, so you may have to hike a bit to find a spot clear of other anglers. P.O.
